Clan MacLeod Parliament – Dunvegan, Isle of Skye – July 22nd – 28th July 2023

Update: 14th March 2023

Plans are progressing apace for the Parliament in July this year. We have already secured the services of Coinneach Macleod, the Hebridean Baker to run a Baking Masterclass. Whisky activities (including a tasting) have been arranged through the Isle of Harris Distillery and we are hoping that they will also provide a link with the Isle of Raasay Distillery for our day on Raasay in the middle of the week. The MacLeod DNA project will feature in a workshop given by Mark MacLeod from the DNA Project Team, and we are hoping that you might be able to sign up to the DNA project at Parliament if you haven’t already done so. We have also arranged for a craft fair to be held in the hall on the Thursday afternoon. This will be with local craftspeople and will be a good showcase for what the local craft industry on Skye has to offer. The details of any excursions are yet to be finalised, but there will certainly be some interesting trips on offer, particularly for those folk who have not been to Skye before.  We also have a number of activities planned in conjunction with Dunvegan Castle, including Castle Tours, the Bratwurst and Bier on the Pier barbecue hosted by CMS Germany on Thursday night, and a tour of the new woodland scheme on the Castle Estate.

Hopefully, you won’t be surprised to hear that there will be cultural activities taking place, including piping, singing and dancing and possibly some craft activities to participate in. we would encourage anyone to come along and participate in these group activities – even if it is just to listen. We are hoping to have a good number of MacLeod Pipers and Singers from throughout the world including a number of our Italian friends from the Veneto School of Piping.

Despite all of these social activities taking place, there will be enough time set aside for the more formal side of Parliament business – ACMS meetings! There will be meetings each weekday morning, except for Wednesday when most folk are likely to be in Raasay. In addition to this both CMS USA and CMS Canada are holding their own AGMS on Monday and Tuesday mornings respectively from 9.00 am.

Most importantly for now, is that you don’t forget to register for Parliament. We are using the trybooking website for this. Registration is available both for Parliament generally and also for some of the specific events mentioned above.

To register please click on the blue Registration Site button (above, right) which will take you to our authorised registration site, then select the orange Book Now button in the top right hand corner of the page to complete the registration form and payment process.

In the meantime, please do direct any questions towards parliament@clanmacleod.org and if you would like to offer to volunteer to help, please do so to that email address too.

Clan MacLeod Parliament

Update: 29th January 2023

Registration for Parliament is now open. Please go to Registration and follow the link to the booking site

We are now taking registration for the whole Parliament week. This will allow us to keep an eye on numbers so that we can tailor events accordingly. General registration will include:

  • access to all ACMS meetings
  • access to all evening events, except the whisky tasting, which will require a separate registration and an additional fee to be paid
  • access to all workshops, except the Hebridean Baker bakery workshop on the Monday afternoon, for which an additional fee will be required.

Once we have have a firmer idea on numbers we will look to post up the individual events where an additional fee may be required. These will include:

  • coach / minibus excursions
  • Hebridean Baker baking demonstration
  • Whisky Tasting

We would hope to have these events finalised around April – May and you will be notified when you can register for these. Places will be limited on these events so we will operate this on a first-come first-served basis.

In the meantime, if you do have any queries please do contact me at parliament@clanmacleod.org but the latest updates will always be available on www.clanmacleod.org at this link

General Information about Parliament 2023

For anyone who has never been to Dunvegan or to a Clan Parliament, the whole idea of Parliament is to come to Dunvegan and strengthen the bonds of Clanship in the land of our forebears – or more simply put – to have some fun! We will meet in Dunvegan for a whole week of Clan Events, trips to places of historical significance to MacLeods, and also hold business meetings of the Associated Clan MacLeod Societies.

Everyone will have their own personal highlights from Parliament Weeks past, but they will no doubt include for some, Ceilidhs with performances and dancing, and for others climbing MacLeod’s Tables and visits to Borreraig, home of the MacCrimmon Pipers. We are looking forward to the now traditional barbecue at Dunvegan Castle hosted by the Clan MacLeod Society of Germany – “Bratwurst and Beer at the Pier” and also to Whisky Tasting and a Clan Quiz.

We will have a programme for younger clansfolk to participate in, with trips and activities organised for children, though likely to be accompanied by their parents – at least for the younger ones! There will be plenty of time for socialising of course and it is often the more spontaneous events that folk organise themselves that prove the most fun.  And of course, there will be access to Dunvegan Castle itself!

Pre-Parliament tour to Mull and Iona (19-21st July 2023)

We are also organising a Pre-Parliament tour to Mull and Iona – booking details for this are separately posted here: https://clanmacleod.org/parliament/parliament-2023/mull-and-iona-tour/

We look forward to greeting you in Dunvegan in July!
