Some are free to download, some are available to purchase, others are on archive websites, and some are available through libraries in different countries. Some titles are now out of print but remain listed in the hope that they will be digitized and available on archive websites in the future. Sir Donald McLeod – a record of 42 years of service in India (published by the Religious Tract Society, London, 1873) by Major-General Edward John Lake, 145 pp. Wiki reference:

Donald Friell McLeod, 1810-1872, was an Anglo-Indian civil servant who served as Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab between 1865 and 1870. He was one of the founders of Lahore Oriental College, now part of the Punjab University, and is generally remembered as a philanthropic administrator and promoter of education, of both Oriental studies by Europeans, and European literature studies in India.

The Ancestry of the MacLeods Reconsidered (1998) by W. D. H. Sellar. Published by the Gaelic Society of Inverness as part of its Transactions series (TGSI).

The Bannatyne Manuscript – reference to a copy held in the Old Dominion Library, Norfolk Virginia. Contained in Box 79, Folder 2, it is part of a collection of MacLeod materials held by the library, divided into three sub-series pertaining to publications regarding the history of Clan MacLeod, as well as MacLeod families and individual members.

The Bannatyne Manuscript is a traditional account of Clan MacLeod. It consists of 142 sheets of foolscap paper. The author’s name does not appear in it. Although the work is undated, a watermark dates the paper upon which it is written to 1829. The textual material from which the manuscript is based is generally regarded to have been the work of William Macleod Bannatyne, Lord Bannatyne (died 1833).

Rewritten by Alick Morrison and republished as The Chiefs of Clan MacLeod in 1986.  Currently out of print but scheduled to be republished by ACMS as a print on demand publication in 2023-24.
