DNA of Clan MacLeod Paper published

The administrators of the Clan MacLeod DNA project have just published a technical paper summarizing their interpretation of the DNA results from hundreds of MacLeod men. They show that the MacLeod Clan is a genetically diverse group of descendants of Vikings and Celtic people who have intermarried over the centuries. Some of these men descend from Leòd, the founder of the clan who had Norwegian ancestry. They also describe clear genetic differences between MacLeods on the Harris & Dunvegan branch and the Lewis & Raasay branch. Mark MacLeod, a co-author and Clan MacLeod DNA Coordinator, is happy to answer any questions from members of the MacLeod clan.

The Clan MacLeod DNA paper published in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy Issue 131 Winter 2025 is available
